PiCO Pocket Air Quality Monitor

A development team based in Seoul have created a new pocket air quality monitor, aptly named the PiCO, which is capable of detecting PM10 and PM2.5 fine dust, VOCs or Volatile Organic Compounds and CO₂eq or Carbon dioxide concentrations, as well as providing the current temperature and humidity in your area.

PiCO is now available to back via Indiegogo with pledges starting from just US$ 99 for early-bird backers, offering a 33 percent saving off the recommended retail price. If all goes well and the Kickstarter campaign is successful shipping is expected to start during April 2018.

PiCO comes complete with its own smartphone companion application and will quickly analyse a room as well as provide a general weather prediction based on your smartphone’s GPS location. If you would prefer to use PiCO independently the small air quality monitor can easily be attached to an external battery and linked with any smart device equipped with Bluetooth connectivity.

The sensor technology integrated into the PiCO includes a Laser Particle Sensor, MEMS Metal-oxide Gas Sensor and CMOSens Sensor. PiCO has also partnered with BreezoMeter, a worldwide service that monitors air pollution and offers an AQI (air quality index), allowing users to monitor air quality and weather which has been collated by satellites, climate stations and traffic control centres round the world.
