PPG Industries based in Pittsburgh has created what
they are marketing as the world’s smallest air-quality detector, aptly named
the NANO. Created to provide immediate air-quality notifications, enabling
users to make healthier choices about the air they breathe. The NANO air-quality detector has this week launched via Kickstarter with the aim of raising US$ 20,000
over the next 18 days to make the jump into production.
The NANO is equipped with industrial grade quality
as sensors in the form of a MEMS Metal-oxide Gas Sensor, Laser Particle Sensor
and CMOSens Sensor. The development team have partnered with BreezoMeter, a
world leading air pollution AQI (air quality index). Enabling NANO to forecast
outdoor air quality and weather by by receiving data from BreezoMeters’ network
of satellites, weather stations and traffic control centres.
The NANO air quality sensor is now available to
backers via Kickstarter with pledges starting from just US$ 79 for early bird
backers. The pocket-sized air sensor can either be powered by your smartphone
to quickly analyse your surrounding environment and also provide general
weather predictions based on your phone’s GPS signal. Alternatively, you can
connect your tiny NANO air-quality sensor to an external battery and link to it
using a Bluetooth connection if preferred. The companion smartphone application
is supported by both iOS and Android devices.
