At the ongoing CES 2018, Vivo announced that they
are the world's first smartphone brand that's ready to produce smartphones with
in-display fingerprint scanning tech! Vivo highlighted a working prototype with
an in-display fingerprint scanning technology. Vivo's in-display fingerprint
scanning tech is the Optical Fingerprint Sensor from Synaptics.
All you need to is just touch the screen of your
display to unlock the device. Vivo believes that the industry's challenge of
providing a better and more convenient fingerprint authentication experience in
their future smartphones with full-screen displays.
According to Vivo, the In-Display Fingerprint
Scanning Technology supports various usage scenarios beyond unlocking the
smartphone. It will also only be activated when needed. A graphical interface
will show up on the screen of the phone in any scenario where the fingerprint
scanner is required. It can be used when the screen is off, during software
unlocking, and even mobile payment authentication.
If fingerprint scanning is not required, the UI will
be invisible and will not disrupt overall visual experience. Versus traditional
fingerprint scanners, the In-Display Fingerprint Scanning Technology is really
convenient to use without compromising the sleekness and unified design of
modern bezel-less smartphones. The first smartphone with this tech is now ready
for mass-production. It'll be announced early 2018.
