Keyboard and keyboard switch manufacturer Cherry has
introduced its new Cherry MX Low Profile RGB keyboard switches this week.
Offering a shallower switch featuring a brand-new design that combines the hugely
popular characteristics of the MX switch with a low profile design. The new
design will allow mechanical keys to be implemented in a much more compact form
factor allowing for notebooks and other small computers to benefit from the
Cherry MX Low Profile RGB switches.
Measuring just 11.9 mm high and offering no
compromise on mechanical key characteristics or quality, the new switches are
35 percent shallower than the standard MX switches. Although the actuation
characteristics remain almost the same for the new switches, the travel
distance has been reduced from 4.0 to 3.2 mm and the switches incorporate
high-precision and long-life Gold-Crosspoint technology, says Cherry.
Cherry has also incorporated RGB lighting into the
keyboard switches using a compact housing design that allows the LEDs to sit
directly on the PCB to fit the shallow design of the keyboard. As well as being
optimised to provide a uniform illumination of the entire keycap and provide
users with a choice of 16.8 million colours throughout the RGB spectrum. Cherry
has not announced any new keyboards or devices equipped with the latest RGB
switches but as soon more information comes to light we will keep you
up-to-date as always.
