Xiaomi plans to unveil at least two new Android
smartphones in early December if we are to believe the latest reports on the
matter. A few days ago, one of the devices expected to be announced on December
7 was confirmed by major carrier China Telecom, the Redmi 5.
Today, we have more information about a slightly
improved version of the Redmi 5, which will be made available in Europe
starting January 2018. Apparently, the smartphone will be launched on the
market as Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus, even though it's been previously leaked as Redmi
Note 5.
Since the Redmi 5 Plus has been recently certified
by TENAA, the Chinese regulatory commission, we now know it's real and that it
will soon go official. Along with some of the phone's picture, a couple of
details about its specs popped up too.
So, unlike the standard Redmi 5 that sports a
5.7-inch HD+ display, the Plus model comes with a slightly larger 5.99-inch
FHD+ (2160 x 1080 pixels) screen. Hardware-wise, the phablet packs an octa-core
Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor, 3GB RAM and either 32GB or 64GB expandable
storage.
When it comes to photography features, the Redmi 5
Plus seems rather average, as the phone offers a 12-megapixel rear-facing
camera and a secondary 5-megapixel selfie snapper. A fingerprint sensor is
visible on the back side of the phone, while under the hood there's a massive
4,000 mAh battery. The Redmi 5 Plus will run Android Nougat right out of the
box and it will be available in black and silver.
