HMD Global has announced the availability of its
latest and most basic Android Smartphone in South Africa, making it the second
market to get the device after it first went on sale some days back in Russia.
The Nokia 2 is exclusive to Vodacom South Africa, and it is immediately
available for purchase via its retail stores across the country. It is priced
at R1699/ US$ 117 which is within the $115 recommended by the company at launch.
Targeted at users who are primarily first time users
in the emerging markets, HMD Global aims to use the device to rake in more
sales for its growing mobile phone lineup. The Nokia 2 much like other Nokia
Android phones is encased in a metal frame milled out of series 6000 aluminum.
Aside from the price, a major selling point of the Nokia 2 is it hug battery
capacity. It comes packed with a 4100mAh battery, which is rated to give up to
two days’ worth of battery life on single charge.
Other features include a Corning Gorilla glass 3,
5-inch display with 720p panel, a Snapdragon 212 chipset with 1GB of RAM and
8GB of storage. Nokia 2 has an 8MP camera at the back and a 5-megapixel front
shooter for selfies.
For availability outside of South Africa and Russia,
HMD is yet to reveal when the Nokia 2 will be getting to other countries, but
hopefully, we expect the device to roll out to more countries in the following
days.
