Fresh reports suggest that its rival, Samsung, is set to diligently study
Apple’s facial recognition function and hopes that its next flagship smartphone
(Samsung Galaxy S9) will sport this feature.
Although this is a very good idea and Samsung fans
will love it, it is quite difficult to achieve. iPhone X facial identification
is based on complex 3D sensors on its hardware. You can even visualize the
TrueDepth camera system as a mini Kinect thus embedding this functionality in
the Galaxy S9 would not be a walk in the park.
Even if the South Korean manufacturing giant can
scale the hurdle and achieve this feat, it will probably face the challenge of
“time”. How fast it can produce this camera system for all the S9 units will be
a big question. Remember that Apple iPhone X launch is just about two weeks
away and the company still has the Face ID feature to worry about.
In addition, other speculations suggest that Samsung
Galaxy S9 will come with Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset and this device is
rumored to be released at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) which Samsung
normally use to unveil its product like it did with Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S7.
Furthermore, its full-screen will be more comprehensive with a thinner top and
bottom bezels than the current Galaxy S8.
