It's a rare sight nowadays that a manufacturer would
stuff a massive battery in a smartphone. Usually, such an act means
compromising a phone's slim profile. But, just 3 months ago, manufacturer
Vernee showed us that we can get the best of both worlds with its midrange Thor
E phone, which had a 5,200 mAh cell, but still retained a relatively slim
profile. Now, the company is upping the ante with the Thor Plus and its massive
6,200 mAh battery.
The Vernee Thor Plus is a metal-laden handset with
fine minimalistic looks about it. It sports a 5.5-inch screen with a 720 x 1280
pixel resolution amounting for about 267 PPI density. The handset is powered by
a MediaTek MT6753 octa-core processor ticking at 1.3 GHz, 3 GB of RAM, and has
32 GB of onboard storage expandable via microSD card. The cameras have a 13 MP
sensor on the back and an 8 MP one for selfies. Of course, the phone has
Android 7 Nougat out of the box.
Now, for the jewel in the Thor Plus' crown — its battery.
It's a massive 6,200 mAh cell, which is technically bigger than your average
portable power bank. It's not all about having a big battery, though, it's how
your phone uses it. Vernee has developed a system, which it calls VOS, that has
been made with the specific purpose of making better use of huge batteries. It
optimizes standby time and delivers really quick charging — the 9 V / 2 A
charger can top up the huge battery in just 90 minutes.
Vernee promises 20 hours of video-watching or 30
days of pure standby on a full charge, which is pretty impressive if so. In
case that's not enough, you've got a power-saving mode, easily activatable by a
hardware button on the side of the phone.
The Vernee Thor Plus will retail for US$ 169.99 but can
now be pre-ordered at the special price of US$ 149.99, with shipments kicking off
in early September. Additionally, the first 20 orders for every day will have
the phone at the special price of US$ 129.99. Not enough? Vernee is also throwing
a giveaway raffle on the Thor Plus' official page.
