Atari has kept pretty quiet about its Ataribox,
while fans wait in anticipation. However, thanks to an email newsletter we now
have a few bits of information that should make fans happy The console will
have an Indiegogo launch this fall. As far as the design, we can expect an
Atari 2600 influence with a modern touch. It even has real wood.
The console will be powered by an AMD customized
processor and run Linux. You can also do all the usual PC-for-TV things, like
streaming, listening to music and social media. What is odd is that we still
don’t know about what pre-loaded games it will include. The company does say
that it will “start talking titles very soon”.
We know that it plans on shipping in late spring
2018, with an expected price tag of US$ 250-300. Fans who get involved with the
Indiegogo campaign this fall, will be able to get their hands on special
editions and exclusive pricing. We still have a lot to learn about this
console, but hardcore Atari fans already know they are going to buy it.
