Sony is seemingly getting ready to launch a new
mid-range Android smartphone that's going to sit between the 5-inch Xperia XA1
and the 6-inch Xperia XA1 Ultra. According to
Russian website MobilTelefon, this new handset is called Xperia XA1 Plus, and
renders of it can be seen below.
Reportedly, the Sony Xperia XA1 Plus sports a
5.5-inch display with 1080 x 1920 pixels, and should be powered by the same
processor that's found inside its slightly older brothers - a pretty capable
octa-core MediaTek Helio P20 (aka MT6757). Other features will include a
fingerprint scanner on the rear (embedded in the power button), a USB Type-C
port, 4 GB of RAM, 32 GB of storage space, and a 3430 mAh battery.
Interestingly, this battery would be one of the largest we've seen on a Sony
smartphone. For comparison, the Xperia XA1 Ultra packs a 2700 mAh cell, while
the high-end Xperia XZ Premium, which sports a 5.5-inch 4K screen, has a 3230
mAh cell inside.
On the front, the XA1 Plus seemingly has an 8 MP
camera, while its rear camera is a 23 MP one. Android 7 Nougat should be on
board at launch, with Android 8 Oreo probably arriving later via an update.
For now, it's not clear how much the Xperia XA1 Plus
will cost, and neither if it's going to be available in North America. In any
case, the handset might be officially announced tomorrow, August 31, during
Sony's IFA 2017 event, possibly alongside an Xperia XZ1 and an XZ1 Compact.
