Last year's Samsung Gear Fit 2 is about to get a
successor called Gear Fit 2 Pro. Samsung already confirmed the name of the new
wearable device, and now we can actually see images of it - thanks to Venture
Beat, which also revealed some of its features.
The Gear Fit 2 Pro
sports a curved AMOLED display (unknown size and resolution), and is based on
Tizen OS, although it will be compatible with Android and iOS smartphones. The
new fitness band comes with "5 ATM" water resistance, which means
it's capable of withstanding water pressures equivalent to depths of up to 164
feet (50 meters) - this makes it perfect for swimming and diving. While the old
Gear Fit 2 is water-resistant as well (IP68-certified), it's not suitable for
diving.
The Gear Fit 2 Pro further features music playback
(which wasn't available on previous Gear Fit models), and supports offline
Spotify tracks. Moreover, the device comes with an improved watch-style wrist
band that should make sure it doesn't fall off in extreme workout conditions.
Reportedly, Samsung intends to announce the Gear Fit
2 Pro on August 23, at the same time with the Galaxy Note 8 smartphone and a
new Gear VR headset. Right now, there's no word on when the Gear Fit 2 Pro will
be released, and neither on how much Samsung plans to ask for it. Nevertheless,
we assume the new fitness band won't cost more than the Gear Fit 2 of 2016 -
around US$ 180.
