AMD Vega Frontier Edition

AMD's hotly anticipated series of graphics cards based on the new Vega architecture were first announced back in May without a price or a clear launch date in sight. AMD has now cleared the confusion and provided all the details that were missing back then.

The two cards that will be launched first is the Radeon Vega Frontier Edition with air cooling and a variant of the same card with liquid cooling. The air cooled model will be priced at US$ 999 and the liquid cooled model will set you back US$ 1500. The air cooled version is available today and the liquid cooled version will be available in Q3.

This is not your mainstream graphics card and is meant to compete against the NVIDIA Titan Xp. In fact, AMD doesn't even talk about gaming with these cards and they have been designed primarily for compute applications, such as game development, VR development, machine learning development, video encoding, 3D rendering and other fields like science and medicine that could use its massive floating point performance. That's not to say that they can't be used for gaming, just that it would be somewhat of a waste of potential and money, not to mention AMD is coming up with more Vega based graphics card for consumers later this year.
