While Oppo today is more known for their mid-range
Android devices, the company used to be more well known as a vendor of high
quality Blu-ray players. They made some
of the absolute best Blu-ray players on the market. Now it seems they’re back
for more with their latest device, the UDP-205.
The UDP-205 4K Blu-ray player comes at a fairly high
price of $1,399, but it’s for a good reason. With dual ES9038PRO DACs, HDMI
audio jitter reduction circuit, and support for both XLR and RCA connectors,
the UDP-205 sports some incredible audio capabilities.
Moving on, the actual video playback features are
much simpler with HDR10 support, Dolby Vision (coming via software update), 4K
upscaling for older content and support for a wide range of formats from 4K
Blu-rays to audio CDs. These are all features that can be found on cheaper
players, which is concerning.
The UDP-205 is clearly not built for the average
consumer, what with its high price tag and impressive audio capabilities. It’s
more tailored towards the needs of audiophiles and audio playback, which seems
like an odd choice for a Blu-ray player.
