The Aurora is a new mid-range BlackBerry-branded
smartphone that will soon make its debut in Indonesia. BlackBerry Aurora should have been available
for purchase starting March 3.
It looks like PT BB Merah Putih, the
company handling the distribution of BlackBerry smartphones in Indonesia, won't
be launching the Aurora until March 9. The smartphone will be
available in three colors including Gold, Silver, and Black. Customers who
pre-order the Aurora for IDR 3,499,000 (US$ 262) will also receive a free JBL Go Speaker and a
flip case at some retailers.
The BlackBerry
Aurora will ship with Android 7.0 Nougat on board. Spec-wise, this is clearly a
mid-range handset aimed at emerging markets. The smartphone is equipped with a Qualcomm
Snapdragon 425 processor, 4GB RAM, and 32GB expandable storage space. Also, it
comes with dual-SIM support and a decent 5.5-inch display with HD (720p)
resolution. A 13-megapixel camera is packed on the back side, while in the
front there's a secondary 8-megapixel camera for selfies and video calls.
We doubt the BlackBerry Aurora will be launched
outside Indonesia, but a similar device with a different name could be released
globally by Chinese company TCL.
