Xiaomi Redmi 4A, Redmi 4 Standard, and Redmi 4 Prime
Xiaomi Redmi 4 is finally official after months-long
rumor spree. Xiaomi actually unveiled three different models of the mid-ranger
and they target different groups of users.
Xiaomi Redmi 4A
The Redmi 4A is the cheapest among the Redmi 4
series but still has an all-metal body, even if it looks slightly different
from the other two. The phone packs a 5" IPS screen of 720p resolution and
runs on the Snapdragon 425 chipset with a quad-core 1.4 GHz Cortex-A53
processor, Adreno 308, and 2GB of RAM.
Its 13MP main camera sits at the top-left corner of
the back, accompanied by a single LED flash. There is a 5MP selfie snapper at
the front. There is no fingerprint scanner on the Redmi 4A.
The Redmi 4A has 16GB expandable storage via a
hybrid dual-SIM slot. It is powered by a 3,120 mAh battery. MIUI v.8 on top of
Android Marshmallow is what you get out of the box. Xiaomi will launch the
Redmi 4A in gold and rose gold flavors only. The phone will cost CNY 499 or US$ 74
in China and will go on sale on November 11.
Xiaomi Redmi 4
The Redmi 4 has an accent on the camera at the back
and a 2.5D glass at the front. Redmi 4 also comes with a 5" IPS screen of
720p resolution, but is powered by the Snapdragon 430 chip with an octa-core
1.4 GHz Cortex-A53 processor, Adreno 505 GPU, and 2 gigs of RAM.
The main camera, although still of 13MP resolution,
is a different unit and sits centered at the back. It supports phase-detection
autofocus and comes with a dual-LED (but not daul-tone) flash. The 5MP selfie
shooter is the same as on the 4A model.
Xiaomi Redmi 4 has an always-on fingerprint scanner
at the back, below the main camera. The rest of the Redmi 4 specs include 16GB
expandable storage on a hybrid dual-SIM slot, Bluetooth 4.1 support, and a
4,100 mAh battery. The phone runs on MIUI 8 with Marshmallow underneath.
Xiaomi Redmi 4 is already on pre-order in China and
will go on sale in Monday, November 7. You can grab the handset in gold,
silver, or dark gray paintjobs for CNY 699 or US$ 104.
Xiaomi Redmi 4 Prime
Finally, there is the Redmi 4 Prime to join the
regular Redmi 4, but it brings quite a few surprises. For starters it doubles
the storage to 32GB and there is 3GB RAM on board.
The Redmi 4 Prime has another 5" IPS screen but
of the higher 1080p resolution. The upgrades continue with the chipset, which
is Snapdragon 625 with an octa-core 2.0 GHz Cortex-A53 processor and Adreno 506
GPU.
The Redmi 4 Prime also
comes with a dual-tone dual-LED flash next to its main camera, and the network
connectivity is upped to Full Netcom 3.0, while the rest of the Redmi 4 models
are at 2.0.
Everything else stays the same as on the Redmi 4 -
the design and the available colors, the fingerprint scanner, the battery
capacity, and the operating system. Xiaomi Redmi 4 Prime is already available
on-preorder in China for CNY 899 or US$ 133 and will go on sale on Monday.
