Huawei officially
announced the Huawei P9 and the P9 Plus smartphones at an event in London. As expected, the
Huawei P9 series phones will be the first smartphone developed in partnership
with Leica.
HUAWEI
P9
The Huawei P9 comes with a 5.2-inch
1080p display with 2.5D glass on top. The bezels are super thin, measuring just
1.7 mm. Under the hood, the phone will be powered by the Kirin 955 chipset that features quad Cortex
A72 cores @ 2.5 GHz and quad Cortex A53 cores @ 1.8 GHz. There are two variants
of the device, one with 3 GB RAM + 32 GB storage and other with 4 GB RAM +
64 GB storage. The storages are expandable via MicroSD.
Now, coming to the most interesting part
of the device. The P9 will feature two 12 MP sensors at the back. One will be a
monochrome camera while the other will be an RGB color sensor. The former
sensor will aid the phone to take more accurate shots along with black and
white pictures. These two will work together for taking some great shots. Up
front, there will be an 8 MP shooter ideal for selfies.
The Huawei P9 comes with a 3,000 mAh
battery on board, packed inside a slim 6.95 mm body. The company has done a
wonderful job with the all metal design, keeping it slim and lightweight. The
phone just weighs 144 grams. The 360 degrees fingerprint sensor is located at
the back. As for software, the phone runs on Android 6.0 with EMUI 4.1 on top.
Other features on the P9 include stereo speakers and USB Type-C.
These are pretty powerful specs and in
line with what we heard from the leaks before. Coming to the pricing, the
Huawei P9 3GB RAM version starts at 599 EUR (US$ 681) and the 4 GB RAM version will
retail at 649 EUR (US$ 739). There are lots of colors available like Ceramic
White, Haze Gold, Rose Gold, Titanium Silver, Mystic Silver and Prestige Gold.
HUAWEI
P9 Plus
This will be a better-specced version of
the Huawei P9, with a larger display and juicier battery. The Huawei P9 Plus
comes with a 5.5-inch 1080p display. The phone has the same Kirin 955 chipset
under the hood with 4 GB RAM and 64 GB storage option as standard. The storage
will be expandable. At the back, the phone comes with the same 12 MP Dual camera
setup as the P9 with an 8 MP front facing shooter as well. The battery is
larger, measuring 3,400 mAh and for software, you have Android 6.0 with EMUI 4.1
like the P9. Pricing is naturally higher, more than US$ 100 higher than the top
end P9 variant. So, the Huawei P9 Plus will retail at around US$ 850.
The company plans to release the device
in a lot of regions including Austria, Bahrain, Belgium, China, Ireland,
Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Qatar, United Kingdom, Czech Republic, Egypt,
Denmark, Germany, Greece, Hungary etc.
