ZTE
S3003
A
new ZTE smartphone has passed through TENAA, which is the Chinese regulator
that passes smartphones for certification in the country. The S3003 is an entry
level device that comes with one striking feature, one that we do not expect in
this age of mobile technology. The S3003 comes without a rear camera.
A
lack of a rear primary camera is very rare for smartphones. Some BlackBerry
devices ship to enterprises without a rear camera for security purposes, but
retail smartphones without a shooter are non-existent.
Sure,
we can argue that this is as entry level as it gets, so taking off the camera
would make this device completely bare bones and probably even more affordable.
However, a camera module costs at the most US$10 at the budget end, so how much
of this could be cost cutting on ZTE?
Elsewhere
the S3003 gets a 5-inch 720p screen, a pixel density of 294ppi, a quad core
1.5 GHz CPU, 1 GB of RAM, 8 GB of internal memory, and LTE connectivity.
