Nvidia
Shield Tablet K1
Nvidia had
launched the Shield Tablet with a price tag starting from US$ 300 and in July 2015
the tablet was made available for the US consumers. Just after launching the
tablet, the company had recalled the certain set of tablets over the battery
issue. This week the company had relaunched the same tablet as Nvidia Shield
Tegra K1 with few modifications and is priced at US$ 200.
The updates
can be found in the battery department and interestingly the company chose to
remove stylus that was available in the earlier model. It comes with an 8-inch
IPS display with 1920×1200 pixels resolution. The real power of the tablet can
be found with the 2.2 GHz Tegra K1 Quad-Core processor along with 192 core
Kepler GPU that can give seamless experience even while playing graphic intensive
games.
It has 2 GB
of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage that can be further expandable up to 128 GB
via a MicroSD card slot. The device has a 5 MP rear and front cameras with no
LED flash provided. As of now the tablet runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop, but the
company had announced the tablet to be upgraded to Android 6.0 Marshmallow in
the next couple of months.
The 19.75
Watt hours battery on this tablet can give decent battery life even while
playing high-end games. The pre-installed apps include Nvidia Shield Hub,
Nvidia Dabbler, Squid, Twitch along with Google PlayStore. Unlike the original
Shield Tablet, there is no 4G LTE variant of the Shield Tablet K1. Connectivity
options include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 LE, GPS/GLONASS, and MicroUSB 2.0 port.
While the
original tablet came with a built-in stylus, the latest Shield Tablet K1 comes
without a stylus but the company is offering it as an additional accessory with
the name DirectStylus 2 priced at US$ 20. The other additional accessories offered
by the company are Shield World Charger, Flip Cover and Shield Controller
priced at US$ 30, US$ 40, and US$ 60 respectively.
