Toshiba
Satellite Radius 12 Laptop
Toshiba
is striding towards the lead with its new Satellite Radius 12. Its highlight
feature is a 4K panel that fits into a tiny 12.5-inch frame. That works out to
about 352 pixels per inch, and on par with many high-end tablets.
Thankfully,
the enhanced scalability of Windows 10 wards off this potential issue – for the
most part. The Windows interface itself is easy to read and use, and the
third-party software installed on the demo system looked nice, too. But older
programs could prove difficult.
The
Radius 12 is the flagship of the new Radius line-up, and it’s built to an
appropriate level of quality. Real and faux brushed aluminum is the order of
the day, depending on the panel. Weight comes in at a hair less than three
pounds and its profile is just six-tenths of an inch thick. It’s not the
thinnest, slimmest convertible around, and too heavy to be comfortable for
long-term use as a tablet, but it’s lighter and smaller than most convertibles
on the market.
Despite
its size, the Radius 12 can be tricked out with high-end hardware, most notably
Intel Core 6th-generation processors up to a Core i7 dual-core. It also can
equip up to 8 GB of RAM and up to a 512 GB hard drive. Connectivity includes a
USB 3.1 Type-C port. This combination of hardware meant the system felt snappy
in use.
